Jack-O-Lanterns Light The Night
The stories about the origin of
Scary Pumpkin Lantern are as numerous as interesting. But all the legends talk
about Jack, lazy but shrewd Irish farmer who succeeded several times to outwit
the devil.
One of the stories tells how
once Jack tricked the Devil to climb the apple tree, when he was already above,
Jack scribbled onto the crust cross. Because the Satan was unable to come down,
he had to promise the farmer, that he will not take his soul, to help him.
Another legend talks of how Jack
robbed his fellow villagers and was chased by them, when on his way, met the
Devil, who told him, that his time in this world runs out. Jack, however,
managed to tempt him, to make a fool the devout villagers, who chased by
offering devil to become a coin to pay them stolen. Then, after the Devil
disappears again regain the form, villagers quarrel among them, who stole the coin. Devil
liked the idea and agreed, but when the farmer took him into pocket for bad surprise of devil there were also single cross.
The devil began to lose strength, was exhausted and could not get out and
started begging for mercy. Jack freed from the painful trap, only after the Devil promised him, that would never take Jack soul.
But not long after the time of Jack the world really
ended. Because his earthly life was too sinful, he could not go to heaven. But
he cannot go in hell. The devil did not want to accept it, because it had
concluded a deal with him. Jack had nowhere to go, but around was darkness.
Because Jack did not see his way in the dark, the devil gave him eternal
burning charcoal from Hell, which illuminates his way through the darkness.
Jack carved a turnip put charcoal inside and began to wander in search of
eternal rest. Since then, Jack was doomed to wander nowhere.
These legends give the name of the lanterns, which are
beginning made from turnips and later pumpkins. They aim to keep bad spirits
out on the night of the holiday. So today lanterns called Jack, and millions of
people each year illuminate it their way and their homes in the dark Scary
night.
And here's our interpretation of the idea of pumpkin
lantern, but we decided to use it as a bowl for candy.
First we pasted on glass stretch film.
After that we tear paper into small pieces.
We glued paper on the glass with C200.
We waited for it to dry.
We are cutting the resulting shape to remove it.
We glued again the two parts.
We painted in orange.
We draw a scary face.
The project sounds ambitious,
but is actually very easy. We need a little more time for drying of C200.
We wish you a wonderful day!
Happy Halloween!
